O Projeto Riza Animal Sanctuary was founded in 2019 by Isabel, whose vision was to create a project rooted in collaboration, growth, and connection, much like the concept of a rizoma (rhizome), where every part is interconnected and supports the whole. This is the inspiration behind our name.
From its humble beginnings, the sanctuary has blossomed into a vibrant community. In 2022, the project transitioned to being run entirely by volunteers from around the world, each bringing their unique skills, experiences, and passion for animal welfare. Together, we work to provide a safe haven for farmed animals who have been abandoned, neglected, or mistreated.

Our sanctuary is a place of healing, for both non-human and human animals. We believe in the power of compassion and are committed to creating an environment where all beings can heal, thrive, and find respect. As an antispeciesist organization, we challenge systems of oppression that harm both humans and non-human animals, and we work towards a more inclusive and compassionate world.
